In 1978 Italian American Association President Sal Tortorici purchased the land for which our club building would be erected. The land was bought by Floyd Bailey who was the executive vice president of Rio Rancho Estates. Little did he know at the time the legacy he was starting and the amazing community that would soon follow.
On April 13th of the same year members of the Italian American Association announced plans to build a 5000 square foot building complete with kitchen, bar and meeting hall. Activities planned include bingo, Las Vegas nights, horse racing, socials, bar-b-ques, and dances.
Only a few months later in June of 1978, the Italian American Association celebrated the groundbreaking of the new building. An extravagant event was held that included music, punch, cookies, hot dogs and beer. Bruce King candidate for Governor spoke and dignitaries Sal Tortorici, Bruce King, U.S. Senator Pete Domenici, Father Thomas Keane and Evelyn Prinzo had the honors of moving the first ground.
The grand opening and dedication of the new Italian American Association Building happened on December 16, 1978. The building will help the Association achieve its goals of family and community engagement, it will bring us together.
